Official Schelmish U.K. News

This is the latest news from Schelmish in the UK (See also Gigs Page for details)

July 2010

TO ALL FANS.

In July of last year, we were over in Germany for Dextro's birthday party.
At that time we were asked to finalise the details for the September tour and also to start and organise five UK tours for 2010.
As most people know, the September tour had to be cancelled at short notice due to health issues in the band.
We continued with "setting up" the 2010 tours which also included dates and venue's to cover the cancelled September tour.  The five tours were to have been in March, May, June, July and September, covering all areas of England including three Festivals.

Some details were sent over to the band in February- since then we here at Schelmish UK have heard NOTHING from the band.  We did hear via "a third party" that they were going into the studio in March to record a new CD.  We have no details of this.

Sorry we have no other information to give, but we here at Schelmish UK are particularily saddened by all of this, as we made many personal friends within the UK Fan base.

September 13

Hi everyone,

First Dextro has asked me to thank everyone for their good wishes, I did forward them all on. If you want to send "get wells" or other personal messages, you can do so on dextro@schelmish.de   They will go straight to him.

Next I'd like to thank everyone for holding back and not sending dozens of individual emails. I felt a bit rude asking people not to email me, but it did mean my system was relatively clear and I could then contact all the venues, promoters and others involved with the tour quicker. Because of this I did manage to reach almost everyone very quickly and start looking at alternative dates. Given the time scale by the doctors, we are going to now have to do the tour early/middle of March. Dextro has to have operations to both knee's and each will take 6 to 8 weeks to heal properly with a gap of maybe 2 weeks in between.
ALL TICKETS WILL BE HONOURED. So please don’t panic about that. It may be that
different support bands will have to be arranged as the bands booked for this tour may have other commitments, also the 'running order' of the tour will most likely have to be revised as some venues are already booked for the 'ideal' dates. But all the tour will be put back together. Here at Schelmish U.K. we now know the true meaning of the phrase 'Logistical Nightmare'!  Some promoters have said that they may still run an event on the right date as well. This I should be able to post on the Schelmish U.K. web site news page by Tuesday evening at the latest so do please check it.Thank's everyone again for
your patience, I have to send this to everyone on all the sites as we have to make sure everyone who may or may not have tickets is informed.
regards, Bob

September 10th

I'm very saddened to announce that the Schelmish September UK tour is now suspended. Whilst I am pleased to hear from individual fans and friends this does somewhat clog up the E-mail system and I need to work with the Venues and Promoters at the moment.
Dextro as many of you now know was taken to Bonn hospital this morning suffering from accute knee joint problems.
He did suffer a bad fall on his knee's at the end of the 2006 tour and did complete the tour on crutches.
It seems that the joints of his knee's have now "cried enough" and following treatment and X-rays today he has now been
advised that he needs at least two weeks rest with no weight or strain on his joints.
This effectively includes the forthcoming UK Tour! The Tour WILL be re-scheduled most probably for early next year, after
we have spoken with the Venues and Promoters. We ask that you bear with us for the next 72 hours whilst the position is
clarified as it is feared that Dextro may have to go into hospital in the near future for reconstructive surgery to his
knee joints, as a result of the weight of the Pipes he has carried over the last Ten years.
Please refer to www.schelmishuk.co.uk
for full information that we will post as available to save individual E-mails over the next few days.
We are grateful for all your concerns, but we need to keep the lines open to inform everybody as quickly as possible of the updated situation.

Regards.
Bob and Jan. (Schelmish UK)

August 28th

Glastonbury Abbey.  Several people have contacted us to ask why this is not shown on the Gig page.  It is an un-official Gig by invitation of the Abbey Trustee's.  The Band will be playing an accoustic set about 10am by King Arthurs grave.  Its a Free concert, but normal Abbey Fees will apply!
We will then of course be making our way to Cornwall for the Hospice Charity Gig.

July 2010. The Band have been booked to headline at the Two Rivers Festival on Friday the 2nd.  Most likely, the next Gig will be in Dorset on the 3rd.
Watch for other dates and Venues being announced shortly.

For the first time ever, special UK Tour Shirts are being produced by the Band.  There will be a Limited number only available on the Tour.

News late yesterday evening that the Pentacle Drummers have been booked by the Brighton Promoter to be support band to Schelmish on the 26th.

AUGUST 7th

Good news about Glastonbury Abbey, following a meeting yesterday, Schelmish will be playing in the Abbey grounds, close to King Arthurs Grave on Saturday September 19th at about 10am.  This will be a shortened set as the Band have to be in Cornwall later that day for the Childrens Hospice Charity gig at Sterts Theatre Liskeard.
If you are coming to the Abbey, we are asking as many people as possible to come in Medieval costume or Period Dress to add to the occasion, don't forget your Camera's.  Abbey entrance fee applies.

Schelmish fan Rachael Piper-Harding has started a new photo site for the Band.  All are welcome to join and contribute.  You will find it at   www.flickr.com/groups/schelmish        our thanks to Rachael for doing this.

JULY 31st

To make life easier for all you Schelmish fans out there, we now have an online Ticket Booking Agency for some events.  You will see   www.WeGotTickets.com
under the events where they have ticket allocation.

Special surprise appearance shhhh......... don't tell everyone, but Schelmish have been invited to play in Glastonbury Abbey (weather permitting) around 10am on Saturday 19th September on their way to the Sterts Charity Gig in Cornwall.
Next year it is planned for Schelmish to play a full concert at the Abbey.

Saor Patrol have confirmed that they will definately be at the Colchester Gig on the 25th September to repeat the Mayhem caused earlier in the year at Gloucester.

The Clay Faces, one of this years top acts at the Two Rivers Festival have agreed to support Schelmish at the Chepstow Drill Hall Gig on the 18th September.

Westgate Pavilion (Kent) who are hosting Schelmish on the 17th September have informed us that a top local band will be in support.

For the Colchester area fans, Jac's Path, 3 The Schergate,  also have stocks of the DVD's and CD's.

First the GOOD news that the long awaited Live CD and DVD of the February Gloucester Guildhall gig are in stock - see Merch page.  We also of course have stocks of the Saor Patrol CD and DVD as well.
The feedback for this show was so great that it is going to be repeated in Colchester on September (Friday) 25th.
Tickets direct from the Colchester Arts Centre.  There is a good car park nearby!!

Kent Venue now confirmed to be The Westgate Pavilion - NR Margate.   this recent re-furbished Venue will be a first in Kent for Schelmish.  Full details on the Gig page.

Tickets for Chepstow gig will be available from August 1st - Details on the Gig page. Please read details carefully as we are trying a new E-mail ticket system on this one.

Details about how to get to each Gig, car parks etc will be posted shortly.

There are currently Six Tours in the planning stage for the UK for next year.  So the Band should be somewhere near YOU on at least one of them!!

Two Rivers Festival (Chepstow) have already confirmed Schelmish to be their "Headline" Band for next July!

For Cornwall and the South West Fans.  The Gig on Saturday September 19th at Sterts Theatre - NR Liskeard is in aid of the new Childrens Hospice - Precious Lives Appeal.  Not only do you get a great night out with Schelmish, but you get to help a very worthy cause too.

The Underworld Club - Camden - right opposite the Camden Tube station, play host to the "Schelms" on Thursday the 25th.
Reckon this could be one very wild night as the Band plan to spend the afternoon at the Famous Camden Market!!  Expect to see some Weird and Wonderful Costumes, so if you are coming to this one - Dress to Impress.  Tickets from the Club.

We always welcome your  feedback and comments, so please contact us at the usual E-mail address -   schelmish.uk1@tesco.net

  • September see's 'The Schelms' back in the U.K. There may be yet another gig to add, as we are working to secure a venue in Kent for Thursday 17th.
  • Friday 18th The Band are booked for Chepstow, Gwent. Just 5 mins drive from the end of the (old) Severn Bridge. This should not only suit all the Bristol/Swindon fans, but is also easy for Gloucester/Cheltenham and Tewkesbury who can travel down via the 'forest' (A48). We plan to put full directions and maps on this site nearer the time for all gigs.
  • Saturday Sept 19th. Sterts Theatre near Liskard, Cornwall. If you dont know this one, it is a superb theatre set in a great location. Log on to their website (http://www.sterts.co.uk) and you will see what I mean. But is Cornwall ready for Schelmish??? This event is being held to help raise money for a new childrens hospice, so you can have a great weekend in Cornwall, see Schelmish and help a very worthy cause as well. The local hospice group are trying to tie a deal with a local campsite for those that want to go down and spend the weekend down there.
  • Thursday 24th see Schelmish at the reknown 'Underworld Club', Camden. The club is right opposite the Camden underground station and about 5 mins walk from the 'overground' rail link and just 2 mins. from Camden Lock Market. This is something of a diverse band for the club, so please lets see you all there. I've been asked about 'dress code' from a couple of the 're-enactor' groups but knowing the band plan an afternoon at the market, who knows what dress they might turn up in.
  • Friday 25th. Once more The Band venture into East Anglia. This time The Colchester Arts Centre play host to not only Schelmish, but we hope Saor Patrol will be joining us again for a repeat of the great gig with both bands that was recorded for D.V.D. at the Gloucester Guildhall in February. Good carpark just 1 mins walk away and a great pub (Hole in the wall) between the carpark and Arts Centre. There is a bar in the Arts Centre by the way.
  • Saturday 26th sees the last U.K. gig for this year down in Brighton. I'm just waiting for venue details to be confirmed and I'm told that the promoter also has a local 'support band' in mind. Details as soon as I get them. Full gig details, tickets, directions etc. very shortly will appear on the 'Gig Page'.
